1. No Dx 10 games will even be out until at least the middle of 2007.

2. You need Windows Vista to use Dx 10.

3. Even Dx10 games will have a Dx9 codepath for a LONG TIME, so that older cards can work with them.

4. The Radeon X1950 cards are not Dx10.. The onl.,y Dx10 cards in existance today is the 8800 series, but Ati's R600 should be out in a month or two.

I would recommend the 8800 GTX. I have the EVGA and have been very please with the performace however most brands like BFG and XFX are also good choices. Be sure you have enough room in the machine for it though, it is pretty big.

Not sure if dx10 games will be available until the middle or end of this year, and looks like the ATI card will be delayed again so we might not see that for at least another few months.

You cant go wrong with the ATI 1950XTX either, a little cheaper than the 8800's but does lack in performace in comparison.

most money = GTX best, less money = GTS good

And to add to what Cleeve said, there's a lot of speculation that the 8800 isn't even a DX10 card but rather a really good DX9 card with "DX10 shaders".

Don't expect a game to come out that will run well on a mediocre DX10 system at max settings until late 2007. DX9, in most people's opinion including mine, will still be the way to go until late 2007/ Early 2008.

The r500 (X1900 series) and r600 are totally different.

The G70 (Geforce 7x00) and G80 (geforce 8800) are also totally different from what I've seen...

The 8800 are fully DX10 capable this was put to rest shortly after it's release. The only thing that's unknown is how well they will perform.
