Basically, my problem is as follows. My motherboard turns on for ~ 1/10 of a second, and then powers down. I dont know what could cause this. Any ideas? The problem started when I was doing some maitenence on my watercooling, and I am pretty sure that some of the water landed on the motherboard itself.
I'm pretty sure it is a short somewhere, if there is something specific that causes this type of behaviour, I would like to know.
Well. I dont know if it is the PSU or not. I did ye old Green + black wire trick, and the rest of the system powers on fine. I dont know about the CPU fan though, Ive got a waterblock on it, and thus, there is no fan, though I did try powering it on with a normal 3pin fan connector attached to it.
The best way to verify your problem is try another good PSU with the bare minimum of devices plugged in, aka the CPU one stick of RAM and nothing else. If it does not have onboard video, the system should be able to boot up long enough to give a POST error.
If the same thing happens, check to make sure nothing is shorting out the mobo, make sure the HSF is seated properly, that there is no concentrated amounts of dust on the mobo, and nothing with any burn marks.
Also, check the tops of the capacitors (they look like pop cans) - if any are swollen, i.e. not flat on top, then the board is done.
I ran the machine out of the case with only the PSU (tried 2 different ones), a CPU and ram. I also tried it without ram (the system shoud give me a nice long beep), but still will not power on.
