I'm so happy for the fella's in the States... If it turns out to be true, ESPN made quite a bid to get some broadcasting rights for English Premier League football.

Quote :

- Setanta Sports, who paid £392m for their existing two Premier League packages of live TV rights, are in danger of losing both in the second round of bidding tomorrow for the next three-year contract with Walt Disney-owned ESPN making a significant bid. (Mail)

It's only a matter of time until you all will be able to watch a true sport. No more "American Football" with sissy pads and all... No more so called World Series of Baseball... Just English Football.

In the word of the filthy departed: Namaste.

Well, you don't see them catching with gloves (whatever you call it) except for the wicketkeeper...

I've tried to watch soccer, I've really tried. And it bores me to tears... I can easily sit through a 15 inning baseball game, and I'll watch football anytime, but I just can't get into soccer...

Hell, I'd rather watch hockey or golf than soccer!

I really enjoy watching soccer myself. I guess since I played for a few years as a teenager and both of my kids play now (going on 4 years each now). I have tried watching basketball, baseball, football, etc but they just don't do anything for me.

Soccer = Competitive Riverdance.

Basically, it just gives metrosexuals a reason to run around in shorts. On the plus side, however, it seems to pay enough to keep them off government money.

Reply to exit2dos

pah, football, or soccer, especially english premier league is a bunch of pansies running or sometimes just walking after a ball trying to dive around as much a possible in fake pain to get a free kick.

I ain't a sports fan but seriously anything is better than football.

Oh come on. Football ain't that bad.

If anything ESPN realizes that NFL, Baseball and Basketball will not get viewer ratings much higher as these sports aren't really followed that hard outside of the USA. This move will at least make sure they come out on the better end of the current economic state the world is in.

The thought of watching 90 minutes of "men" in shorts and t-shirts, kicking a volleyball around until someone has to finally put an end to it ... helps me understand why guys turn and punch the people sitting next to them. If I'd been suckered into sitting through 90 minutes of that riverdance, I'd want to punch someone too.

And take that "sissy pads" smack talk to any serious American football team (high school to pro's) - and I promise - you will get the sissy slapped back inside you ... honestly!

:-)

As opposed to being tackled in Rugby with no pads at all? I'd rather watch 90 minutes of craft than watch men man handling each other wearing ski pants...

Reply to Vokofpolisiekar

Clearly, you've never seen American football - ski pants, sweat pants ... they would take your head off. But watch a scrum ... that's a start (slow, but a start).

It's hard not to see/watch American Football. ESPN currently makes overly sure of that with their love for adverts...

Last night being a prime example - I'm trying to watch a guy do a double back flip on a snowmobile and I probably watched 10min of adverts (including NFL) in a 30min time frame.

I hope ESPN do pick up at least one of the packages on offer and Sky make it five out of the six. Get shot of that farcical outfit Sultana. Their coverage of the F.A. Cup in conjunction with ITV is appalling. Wrong choice of matches and the master-stroke, missing Gosling's goal in extra time of the Everton vs Liverpool replay. Arseholes. Would never have happened if the Beeb/Sky had been covering it. And don't get me started on Santana's fcukup of all England's away fixtures and their "exclusive" coverage. Fcuking F.A. sold out.

Sky deserves to get back to where they were prior to the current contract. Damn EU decided they couldn't have all the matches, so we get lumbered with that shambolic outfit Santata. Monopolies blah blah bah. Caught a lot of people out when they won those two packages. Their subscriber base is now as large as it's going to be, they're not going to get any bigger. All their plans rest on the Premier League contract. If ESPN blow them out of the water, they're fcuked. Good.

The EPL is the most watched Footie league in the world with a worldwide following that other countries simply cannot match. In the current economic climate, to get the same money as before represents very good business for Scudamore (albeit he is a twat). Most other leagues in Europe are on reduced terms, clubs are struggling, but the investment in the EPL clubs continues unabated.

I don concur that the league has too many lightweight ponces falling about, but that's what comes when they have that much money. The most skillful players arrive, but have a tendency for the theatric to say the least. This season has been the best in recent years, with Villa genuinely threatening the cosy little top four cartel. And that's coming from a Bluenose. And at the other end, anyone from 9th (Fulham currently) downwards is in real relegation danger.

Still, my lot are doing their best to bollocks up their chance of getting back up. We never do things easy.

Edited for swearing balls up.

As I told Tom, when I get across the pond, I'll go to a game if one of you blokes invites us, but I'm more interested in the fans. I don't know what you guys see in it, but I know you are rabid supporters of your team. And that I can respect.

I'd like to apologize for my ill advised, intemperate remarks concerning European football. It's your game ... and you can keep it ... :D

Well I'm going to assume that there wasn't any video tampering and applaud the athleticism. Nonetheless, I'll stick to UK Football.

My old man did! Back in his Uni days (60's) he played a visiting team of Americans at both American football and Rugby Union (he was captain at UCL for a while). They won both games and the US boys went home black and blue. [/True]

I know you didn't say it was authentic, but yes, it's a good video.
