Take a look at Dell's Axims, and choose one you like with built in WiFi. I
have an X50v. HP models are good too, but a bit pricier.
but before I spend the cash, will I be able to do

You can;
Surf the web.
Download files and install them.
Use Newsgroups.
Update Avantgo
Update the currencies in your Currency Converter programme.
Send and retrieve email.
Automatically update your weather forecast
All with free software (except the Weather bit)...
Are there any

Some flash stuff doesn't work on the PPC. But some does...
It's a smaller screen, but if you can stretch to the cost of an X50v or
equivalent VGA model from HP or Toshiba, you can run them in "True VGA" and
get a lot more on the screen at a time.

You'll need a new mount\ cradle, but it is likely you can use the GPS mouse
that plugs into your current cradle. Does it have a connector that looks a
bit like a modem plug? Make sure you buy a mount which can take a plug in
GPS mouse. For example, I chose a Seidio Mount for my X50v which allows me
to plug in the GPS mouse that came with my Tomtom 3 kit for my old iPAQ
2210.
Finally, in terms of value for money\ features, if you don't want to spend
big bucks on an all singing all dancing VGA PPC with built in WiFi, you
might want to consider an iPAQ 2210 with an add on Wifi\ memory CF card from
someone like Sandisk. I found that combination to work well.
Good luck Chris.
