As I ponder my next build, I am trying to find more info on
my next cpu. Yes, its intel and the current info on the core 2 duo,
the xeon 3000 series and the 4000 cpu to be released. I am
considering the 3070 as a viable o/c ing cpu. What are the oppinions
of the Forum?

If money isn't too big of an issue, get the E6600. If you want a cheapish option that will overclock great, get the E6400. If you really want a cheap option, and want to save a little on RAM/motherboard, as well as CPU....wait for the E4300. If you can wait til Q2(Apr-June) the price of the E4300 will drop to bargain-basement prices.

The E6550(4MB) will only have a 7x multiplier(same as E6300[2MB]/E6320[4MB]), due to already being at 333FSB. Get the E6320 instead(7x 266) which will basically overclock the same, still have 4MB L2, and yet be cheaper. Sorry for all the brackets.

i was going to buy it but i will stick with e4300 it is also nice oc it till 3.4ghz on stockcooler!!..

Yeah, bringing in these new E6x50 and E6x20 chips is going to confuse a lot of people again...something Intel seems intent on doing. :x

It WAS so simple for a while, 
A lot of good info from all. I noticed no one considered the30x0
cpu's. I would think possibly the 30x0 would clock better being
a xeon. Yes I do plan to overclock and using water as the cooling
medium. My base system will be housed in a Kandalf case and
the idea of upgrading to vista. . I know that cpu's with large
cashe perform well. I can wait longer for the prices to drop on
the cpu's.
