My question here is....HOW?

I got a 3700+ at 2.38 GHz paired with 400/200 MHz RAM. So, it is a perfect match which means I need to be overclocking my memory too, but I don't know where to go to overclock...

BTW, do you think I can get a good overclock when it is 50 degrees on load?

EDIT: It looks like this temp is a little high, probably my dual GPUs to blame for that. I can add 1 more fan to the case, but it wouldn't help much at all as it would sit in the hole that is over the CPU fan..

when you oc the cpu you also oc the ram.

and 50c at load seems a little high, but that is probably due to the dual gpu,s

you go into the bios to oc, but it seems that you have already if
the cpu is at 2.3 as it is 2.2 stock.

unless you went through the mobo auto oc,ing feature.
which is not reccomended.

do you have s754 or s939?

s939. From what I have read, my 2.38 is stock. If I could get even a 200 MHz oc out of it, that would be nice since it shows in efficient cores like the AMDs and Conroes. I have to leave headroom as I will be overclocking the GPUs soon.

BTW, what are the best settings for the CPU as is? I got the HT thingy on auto and the cool and quiet disabled.

There are multiple articles on this topic, and my advice to you is to read those throughly before trying anything. Remember that overclocking is never guaranteed, and runs the risk of frying components if you increase the voltage beyond rated maximums.

this is what your cpu should look like under cpu-z.

down load cpu-z and check.

then to oc you need to go into bios and raise the f.s.b.
from 200mhz to 210mhz.

this is just a start. dont change anything else in the bios and dont go
any higher.

then run cpu-z again and post back.

the s929 3700 is 2.2 at stock speeds.

also it depends on what your other components are.
memory/what type.
mobo type.
psu.

that kind of stuff.

if you do things right you should be able to get 200mhz easily.

depending on what the rest of his sys specs are he shouldnt have
to raise the vlts to get a 200mhz oc.

i just oc,ed my 3700 and this is what cpu-z looks like now.
what i did was go to the bios and raise the fsb from
200mhz to 210mhz.

i did drop the htt from x5 to x4.

that was it.

you should be able to do this pretty easily.

but there is a little more to it than just this.

give me a minute and ill post what the memory divider should be.

I don't have the San Diego, I have the Clawhammer, it is 2.38 on stock. I should be able to get more out of CPU and RAM with no voltage increases.

BTW, where do I go in the BIOS? Whenever, I have gone in there, I see some changes I can make to the RAM, but not much else.

this is the memory settings in cpu-z.

you will notice that it is 210 oc,ed and stock is 200.

you will want to keep it at 200 or below for a good stable oc.

also it depends alot on what type of memory you have.
and what mobo you have to as i said earlier.

if you want or try to go higher then you will have to
drop the memory (in the bios) from 200 to 180 or 166 or what
ever is shown in your bios.

again this depends on what mobo you have.
and what memory too.

BTW, I have my htt set to auto, should I and do I have to change that to open up options? Should I set it to x5 for best performance?

i dont recall a clawhammer 3700.
but the clawhammers are 130nm and run hotter than the sandy,s
this changes things a little.

you will want to drop the htt to x4 or maybe x3.

im gonna need more info on the rest of your sys before
anything else.

a clawhammer is good but older and as said before it changes things.

if you can post acpu-z screenshot of your cpu and memory.
and exactly what memory and mobo and psu you are using.

So far, I have not gotten that comp onto the internet. However, since it is custom build I know what is in there...

630 watt PSU
200/400 mem with agressive timings(not sure at moment, but they stick aruond 3,4, and 2T)
Motherboard is an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium.

This is a good, easy to understand guide to overclocking the Athlon 64:

So simple even I understood it :)
