How to do this? The GPS comes with a cable that has a USB on the end. How to
get the signal into the Toshiba in real time, so it works with my Pocket
Streets?

Lots of people are going to get involved here,
with complicated cabling and driver solutions,
but the best thing to do is:

don't use the GPS that came with Streets, get another
one that works *directly* with your Toshiba, WITHOUT
cable/USB/drivers/etc. Streets will work with it fine, it
doesn't care, but trying to use a USB cabled GPS
with a Pocket PC is NOT for the faint of heart. Besides,
then you'll have this kludgey setup with one device
cabled to another...yuck.

Since we don't know which Toshiba you have, this can be
either a CF, SD or Bluetooth device.

The OP did not indicate that the GPS in question came with Streets and
Trips, or Pocket Streets, only that it was USB and he wanted to use it with
Pocket Streets. If in fact it is the Streets and Trips USB GPS, you can get
the appropriate interface cable at Pharos.

Sorry you can't make that leap, Sven.

It is perfectly obvious to me, taken within the context
of his post, and the "push to market" advertising of
PS with the included GPS.

In any case, my comments still apply.

A Pocket PC with a cabled GPS is no longer "pocketable"
or even easily portable.

A Pocket PC with a CF/SD/BT GPS is.

MS does not advertise PS with an included GPS. They advertise Streets and
Trips, a PC application, with an included GPS. That package incidentally
comes with Pocket Streets, which isn't the only way to get that application
either. I chose not to make the leap that was the only possibility. I did
acknowledge that it potentially was that GPS, and offered a solution that
worked with what he already had, not a solution that required him to scrap
the GPS.

omigod!!! You caught me in a small error! I stated PS
when I really meant S&T!

How could I be so stupid????

I'm done with this...have a good day.

Granted, the cable connection on a lot of ppcs is rather fragile, but my
ipaq cabled to a rino gps with a thinner cable works rather well, and is
very portable. I have taken it on a variety of hikes, given it was nice
weather. Barring battery life bt would be much nicer (blue logger is in my
short time plans), but saying a cabled solution to a gps with adequate
battery life is not portable seems to be a bit of a misnomer.

You're making the leap that the OP cares whether the unit is pocketable or
portable.
