I have a Sony STR DA1000ES reciever and I want to hook up a pair of
Dahlquist PDQ 16 speakers. The PDQ's are 4 OHM speakers so do I have to do
anything besides just hooking the cables up? Or do I have to set something
from the reciever to play 4 OHM speakers?
What will happen if we play 4 OHM speakers without making any necessary
adjustments?
Ple help me out.
All help is appreciated.
Thank you
Winston

You need to know if the receiver is designed to handle 4 ohm speakers. At
full throttle they will draw more power from the amplifier (about twice as
much) and, unless it's designed for them, that could overheat some
components. 4 ohm speakers will also degrade the damping factor a bit, but
that's usually not much of an issue with modern stereo equipment.

Paradoxically, most real events are highly improbable.

The specs I find online say that the receiver is rated for use with 8 ohm
speakers.
Tech info on the PD16 speakers seem to be like hen's teeth.

Is there a speaker impedance switch on the back?

Probably, just good sound. Because amps sold in the USA are rated for
continuous sine wave power, and people play speakers with music which is
virtually guaranteed to be a lighter load, doing things like running 4 ohm
speakers with an amp rated at 8 ohms is usually not a problem. Furthermore
4 ohm speakers generally have the 4 ohm impedance only over a narrow range
of frequencies, but music covers a much broader range. Bottom line, the
average load on the amp is quite a bit higher than 4 ohms.

I have a swith on my Yamaha Home theater, and was running 8 ohm in the 4 ohm
position for two years. I switched it when We moved everything around, and
the sound is different.

Where did you get the specs for the PDQ 16s?
I've been searching all over the net with zero results.
No there isn't any switch on back of speakers but there is one on back of
reciever.
Thank you
