If the $179 price is accurate, one would only assume Nvidia doesn't plan on releasing its Ultra line until later in the year.
Probably going to release the GT in the spring around the time the R600 releases.
It's kind of sad to know the Ultra isn't coming out until later in the year, but it only makes sense. It gives the 8800GTS/X a longer life time as people are in the position of "Do I want to wait for the 256 bit 8600 Ultra or get the 8800 now?" as inevitably the price of the 8800GTS would have to go down when the 8600 Ultra releases.
I'm interested to see benchmarks. The 8600 Ultra is rated 150 mhz faster core than the 8600 GT and with 256-bit memory. The 8600 Ultra also has 512 GDDR3 memory. Very attractive.
