Well here it is folks - it's In Stock for immediate sale - the QX6700:

So Intel is up to their old tricks again... whatever the market will bear?
I can buy 3 x E6600 for that money, LoL
But I wouldn't mind one (it would have to be on its own 15A circuit though, heheh...)
What d'you guys think?

Not to mention clock it to same speed
No thanks. Not until we start utilizing it's Quad"ness"

That's for the canadian price right? The only guys benefiting from buying this now is the ones using it for 3D and Video applications. But even soo, that's freaking expensive.

Is this the direct price from Intel? Or is this the retailer's listed price? So, who's playing "tricks" here? And yes, it's quite pricey, I agree.

Either way, I'm sure someone will drop that amount of money for one.

As of the last Canadian/American conversion rate I saw, its still over $1100.oo US dollars. And who says AMD is too expensive? Ok, I know, selected chips and all that. Still, I'm not planning to buy a quad anything for a while.

The Canadians must be getting ripped off. I still have no use for a quad core. Maybe two or three years from now. Don't know. Of course, when games get so complicated that they need quad cores, well, I just can't imagine it.

this is why we need AMD to be healthy and competitive.

We also need AMD because of its diehard fans. They are fun.

I have to guess the HUD at the top of the screenshots is reporting CPU utilization. At between 80% and 89% per core, it looks like I'm going quad in another year.

Yeah, it'll be nice if NVidia gets into the whole CPU market. IBM, NVidia, Intel, and AMD could really keep the market healthy and competitive.

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700, 2.66-GHz @ 1066Mhz w/ 8Mb Quad Core (Socket 775) (Retail Box) w/ Heat Sink & Fan

I feel like less than a man without a $1,200 cpu (sarcasm) . . .

I would, however, like to thank Intel for the Core2 line, i.e.:

Opteron 165 dual core CPU Price 5/17/06: $327.00
Opteron 165 dual core CPU Price 1/15/07: $153.99

Long Live the 939!

Yes - good points, all!
The consumer wins. FX-62 is still expensive (~1/2 the big Quad though).
1000W is the practical limit for 60Hz AC power circuit in North America. With all the big powersupplies feeding the newest vidcards, and now this monster CPU (which someone, Tommy's I believe, showed uses ~300W under load) the average UPS has become completely overmatched.
It's good that the Energy Efficient movement is happening big-time with CPUs. We need it.
Now somebody tell the vidcard makers, heheh...
2 x 8800GTX SLI uses almost as much power as ten 65W AMD CPUs!
One possible benefit to the newest external (vidcard) powersupplies is that you can run them on a second AC circuit.
Like the toaster and the coffee pot - don't plug 'em in at the same time!
So almost infinite CPU power is now available, limited only by the user's available electrical supply, LoL
That is a 'wall' they will have some difficulty getting beyond... or what?
