okay i got 2 computers and one internet connection. i dont want to get a router anymore because the computers are going to have the same ip because all routers start with the same ip. i want to set up servers and what knot on the other computer but i cant do that with a router.

any suggestions on how i could make 1 connection to two computers without getting a router?

First of all you need to do some reading on what a router does. Because your concept is all wrong.

If you just want to connect 2 pc's together with out a router or switch use a crossover cable.

Have a look at this NAT article to get a better idea of what routers do. It is almost certainly easier for you to get a router than to try and do it without a router, especially if you ever plan on having more than two computers.
