MAHJONG SET / IVORY OR BONE

Hello:

I have an old Mahjong game that my mothers maid purchased as a gift while my father was stationed in Taiwan. Can anyone tell me how to determine if the set is made of Ivory or Bone? If so, can you tell me the cost or a price range in which it could be sold? I have the book which came with it and all of the tiles. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Ivory comes from elephants. Elephants come from either India or Africa.

I am informed that elephants indeed come from Taiwan too. But they're not proper elephants. They're cheap Taiwanese knock-offs.

So your Mahjong set is made from fake ivory, and is thus completely worthless. A gift, in other words.

How many tiles can you afford?

Everyone here got some tiles. We didn't know it should've been bought as a set. I can let my 6 go for quite an agreeable price. As for the other members here, you'll have to ask them.
