Well , its time to try to put together a new computer, and im not sure which way to go. i need advice on a motherboard that will work with my E6300-1.86 processor.
i have a chance to get a intel dg965wh board from someone for almost nothing, and i like the features of this mother board but im thinking i may want to overclock to make it last.

i have been reading where the dg965wh does not overclock. if this is correct then what are my options. i understand that the intel baord might also have issues with ram and overclocking.
i play some games but mostly this computer will be a video processing / editing maching. i have about 600.00 dollars to spend and if i dont need to spend it all i might buy a few beers

so i already have the processor intel e6300
harddrives ,video card ,and sound card
i will need motherboard and ram
ram ....i would like to get aleast 4 gig in the future but one gig will be ok for now. im confused about the overclocking of ram and all the differnet speed os ram..
onboard raid would be nice and firewire would be a bonus, but i have a card for that already.

Any help is appreciated..

OR should i keep the board and be happy

ok so if i keep the board what brand and speed of ram will work best with this board. ive read where this board if finicky with ram.

also i thiough i read that i could get another board and overclock with good succss, wouldnt that help. that why i asked the question to drop this motherboard or keep it.
if i have to spend a 120.00 dollars to go to 2.5 ghz from 1.86. wholdnt that be worth it since i havent bought ram yet...
thanks

sorry man but i disagree with you here. A good board can take that cpu far. He stated that he was looking inot to OC ing and toms just recently did this article where they are taking that cpu very far.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/11/core-2-duo-overtakes-core-2-extreme/

you shuould be able to find a decent board and ram for well under that price tag.

Ok aslready got the beer since i have had nothing to do with out buy all the computer parts i need.
ths GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard looks great and i think will work for me if it ever comes back in stock. maybe i find it someware else.
should i go for the ddr2 800 ram for will 667 be ok for overclocking. the intel board seems to have motherboard issues with certian ram ..... at least thats what i have read.... can any one confirm the ram issues speed and compatibility problems with the intel boards, or is it just the fact that no one is overclocking the intel board, or intel boards cant be overclocked/very well ??????

I dont know for sure but i dont think that intel boards OC very well. As for the ram when you Overclock you are going to be making the ram run faster as well as the cpu. Finding ram that is good for OC is the key, I got lucky

This stuff is getting great reviews

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820148017

but if you go to the manufactures page they should give you a list of supported ram modules.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2314&ProductName=GA-965P-DS3

on the right side there is a link that says "Memory support list"

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-965p-ds3.pdf

but just because the ram isnt on the list doesnt mean it wont work. Those are just the ones they have tested.
