Cleaning a burn mark off a copper picture

i have a copper picture that has a big burn mark in the middle and would like to know how to clean it off.

If it is an antique, any kind of cleaning will destroy the patina and lower the $ value. If it is not an antique, use any method specified on the internet. Maybe tryout on a similar test piece first.
