Comcast has announced that HD digital cable and High Speed Internet service
will be available in my area in a couple of months. Their trucks can be
seen all over our area now. I moved to the country a year ago after having
Comcast Cable Internet for four years and missing it has not been easy since
all I can get is 56K dial up (DirecWay did not work for me). I have HD
service with DirecTV and a Sony SAT-HD300 receiver hooked via DVI into my
Sony KV-34XBR800 and get stunning results with this setup. However, I NEED
Broadband Internet. These are my questions:

1) Many sources say DirecTV is better than digital cable HD. True or
false?

2) Keep DirecTV HD and just buy the Broadband Internet service?

3) Sell the Sony receiver and get the reduced package pricing of Comcast
Digital Cable w/ HD and Broadband?

4) Keep the above (3) and add VOOM as a true HD content provider?

5) Is the cable equipment up to par with my current Sony receiver which
upconverts everything to 1080i?

As you can see, this is a decision I do not take lightly and would
appreciate those that know to help.

Jim

I am in a similar situation, except I have 5 DirecTivos in my house. I am
going with just the cable internet, and some day replacing the Tivos with HD
tivos.

I forgot to add I do not have DirecTV local HD programming as i live 60
miles from downtown Chicago. This would require a gain antenna of some
kind. The Comcast people tell me that the local channels will be available
in HD at a nominal fee.

If you want locals in HD, then OTA or cable are your choices. If you
don't care about locals, then just keep DirecTV.

Compare the two services and see if having Voom will get you
additional HD THAT YOU WILL WATCH!

Thank you, all. For now I will keep the DirecTV setup, get the Comcast
broadband and reevaluate later.
