Not sure if this simple scenario is even possible.
Layer 3 switch divided into 2 vlans. I wanted to get L3 communication b/w the 2 VLANs w/out adding another L3 device. I figure it would be simple to do on a L3 switch. Any info would be great. Thanks
Since it's a layer 3 switch, it should be able to do the routing internally. At least, I know a Cisco layer 3 switch can do that. Have a look at this link to see if it helps you. It mentions use of an Inter-VLAN routing wizard.
well it turns out I was doing the right thing all along.
The other VLAN on the switch was not active until I plugged in a device in one of its assigned interfaces. After that I could send L3 traffic back and forth. I could not even ping the virtual interface within the VLAN either.
I can see how that would be frustrating. I wonder if there's some way you could use something equivalent to the "no keepalive" command to keep the interface up even if nothing is connected to it.
