Should I upgrade my video card?

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can answer this, let me list my specs first. Oh and just FYI it's about a game, sorry if I posted in the wrong section, I couldn't find another section.

"Conroe" 2.4Ghz
2GB Ram (800Mhz)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
RAID-0 2x150GB Raptors
500GB Secondary
24" Dell 2407WFP
SB X-Fi
Sapphire X1900GT 256MB No O/C

I currently play Black & White 2 at 1920x1200 resolution w/ max details and settings in game. It runs fine, but then when I have too much stuff in game, it starts getting choppy, say around 10-15FPS.

I dropped my game down to 1600x1200 and the game plays buttery smooth again (with lots of things going on). Although I do notice a big graphical change changing to that resolution and would rather play natively. So I don't really like it like that.

Also I play some fairly new games, and am looking forward to Alan Wake, Supreme Command, and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars - Hell yea!

So the question is... my video card a bottleneck in my system?

Would an NVidia 8800GTS give me much better performance and allow me to play at that resolution with max settings and no dip in performance?

Or would it be better to wait for R600 and buy the 8800GTX when the price goes down?

My GT runs all of my games fine in 16x12, but not above really. Waite for ATi's new offering before you buy another card.

Agreed. Plus, the X1900GT will indefinitly hold you over until a wide range of DX10 compatible cards hit the market.

It'll last until R600 nicely.

Wait for R600, and see what the market is like.

Yeah, wait for R600, your current card is too decent to justify upgrading it right now, unless you have money flying out your ass.

Thanks all for your input.

I will just hang tight for now, I would rather not spend money anyways. I'll wait a few months!
