I'm pretty new to wireless and really confused about what the product is. Is it an access point? router for your wireless internet connection?

It is a wireless device that connects to a USB port of the computer.

In most cases you will need a wireless router or access point to connect to.

Unless your college or coffee shop offer wirelessconnections. Then you only need the USB adaptor.
