Has anybody used a compact flash ide adaptor (with CF) as a hard drive?

It should be fast compared to a drive like the WD Raptor.

It looks like a cheap alternative (albeit much lower capacity) to house just the OS and have fast boot timings.

Any thoughts?

I use a IDE compact flash adaptor on a Linux computer acting as a router/firewall/gateway.
It is very fast, but the compact flash card is limited in terms of capacity and has a shorter life than a hard disk.
