hi just got a intell Core duo e6600 with heatsink, there no heatsink gel.... do i need to buy some or is it already on the heatsink? thanks for help

im scared first build

If there's no thermal paste, although there should be, the heat sink should have a thermal pad on it. Same thing basically. The pad will melt when it gets hot. If there's nothing on it, then yes, you need to get some paste.

Double check the heatsink though. If your CPU was in a new retail box with the HSF, it should be there.

The recomendations that I came across (and followed), were to remove the heat pad that's provided (very carefully, and very cleanly with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip or cotton), and replace it with thermal paste.

There are lots of suggestions on the Web about how to properly apply the paste, and I ended up using a razor blade to apply it evenly and just the right thickness.

I haven't had any problems with overheating so I can only assume it worked.

*note* Don't get the thermal paste on your clothes or the stain is there to stay.
