Not at all clear. The FCC is mandated iLink/Firewire for a year or two while
the industry makes a transition over to HDMI which is compatible with DVI.
Most cable boxes have DVI outputs. Confused yet?

You're confused somehow. The FCC did not mandate Firewire "for a year or
two", they just plain old mandated that it must be available. And really,
it was the CableLabs/CEA agreement that the FCC was ratifying, so it wasn't
something that the FCC came up with on their own.
Firewire and DVI/HMDI have different purposes.
