So i just picked one up like 15 mins ago. I uninstall the old drivers. Then do install new ones, or shut down, restart and install new drivers when it's booted? Anybody help, tried searching for: "Install 8800GTS correct" but now avail. Nvidia's site says to uninstall the old drivers but doesn't say when to put the new ones. Thanks!

it usually doesn't make a difference. however, this is what i would do:

boot into WinXP safe mode. uninstall video card from device mangler. turn off computer. remove old card. install new card. boot windows into regular mode. cancel hardware installation. install latest nvidia video drivers (download from nvidia's website and put install package on desktop)

if it's an ATI card, uninstall ati's software before uninstalling video card. DO NOT reboot windows after uninstalling ati software.

Any particular reason to do it in safe mode?

yes. safe mode loads generic vga drivers... not nvidia's or ATI's. hence, it's easier to uninstall the oem drivers because they're not loaded in memory. it CAN be done in regular mode, i just prefer to do it in safe mode. the same is true of any control panels or retarded, useless video card software.

oh. Let's do it right then. I've heard that people are having driver issues. Dont want that.

Thank you mpjesse,
