I have a new PC and I want to test and make sure the hardware is stable and non-defective. Can anyone recommend a program or group of programs to check this?
Thanks!

just use it man.

i mean to say do what you would normally do.
browse the internet, game, encode movies, whatever.

if you plan to overclock then.
try prime95 for cpu, memtest, for memory, 3dmark, for graphics. :)

very true, you may create more problems by looking for them than if you just use your computer. If a stock pc boots up correctly and doesnt shut down or restart randomly, it usually means that everythings ok.

Not exactly true, when i first got my rig up and running, it seemed fine.. Never did anything funny/weird for a few days of "normal" use.. I then got my hands on 3D Mark 05 and 06.. Then i noticed artifacts and display corruption etc... I had to RMA my gfx card... So i think stress tests are the way to go if you're unsure

For memory, memtest
For video graphics, I guess 3DMark
For CPU, Prime95 or Orthos. Also, there's CPU Burn-In

If you're trying to find how hot your CPU will run, find Intel TAT and use that to find maximum heat of your processors even though, you shouldn't really ever run into a program that will stress it as high as Intel TAT.
