[/b]I have a 40gb ide drive strickly running xp pro. i have a 160gb sata for a media/game drive. Everytime i go to copy files(music) from my external to my internal sata, my computer powers down. It's weird. I thought it was the drive but it's not. I think it's a setting. I have two sata 160's one maxtor and one seagate. They both are doing the same thing. Powering down. I havea K8NF mobo and a 4000 amd. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check to see what is running in taks MGR when you kick off the file copy. The OS appears to be panicking similar to dumpprep. If you see nothing running or pushing the OS down, use a file transfer utility like SSH to see if it helps.

In some cases PC will power down like this because of a PSU problem. As bazaar as that sounds, Dell has been plagued with the same issue. Going by that logic, the power being drawn by the use port might be pulling from a faulty rail in the PSU. It's a reach, but test it out.
