It could be a bad cable? Or perhaps you've installed a Personal Firewall
software blocking communications?
Also, make sure you soft reset the device before placing it in the cradle,
and if you use Pocket Internet Explorer make sure you clear its cache - this
can consume lots of memory, causing problems with ActiveSync...

personal firewalls could cause a problem since ActiveSync uses TCP/IP, but if
you haven't installed or made anychanges lately it's not real likely.
It's very possible the cradle connection could be a problem. If you have any
friends with an iPAQ you might try thier cradle on your computer as well as
on thier computer. doing it on thier computer would eliminate yoru computer
as a problem. and finally try their device on your computer too.

I had a similar problem and found it was due to using a different USB
hub socket
that the one which was originally used to set up the pairing. If this
is the case
and you cannot find the original socket, it will be necessary to
deinstall ACtiveSync
and reinstall, then make new pairing. HTH.
