Just what the question asks. I'm trying to build a pc for the first time and i'm not sure what to get. Thanks to any replies. :p

DVD drives have reached a point where they're all pretty good quality. For the budget minded, Lite-On and NEC are the best choices. What really determines what you should get is the extras such as Lightscribe, SATA interface, DVD-RAM compatability. If none of that's important to you, get the least expensive one you find with decent reviews. Like I said before, you can't go wrong with NEC or Lite-On.

If you can find this one: Lite-On SATA

Hands in up in the air, waving like they just don't care ! <-- just trying to be different than the posters above while poking a little fun :)

Unless you need lightscribe which I don't think this drive has I think this is a good one and no worries about whether you have enough IDE ports etc.

If you really must have a labeling system though, I'd suggest buying printable media and get a decent Epson printer that can print to disks. I do that and its great.
