I am switching from a s939 system to a C2D system, swapping as much hardware as I can.

My current HDD is a wdc wd800bb-00caa1 and in the device manager it is located on the "primary ATA Channel".

Will this HDD work/connect to the P5N-E SLI mobo I am getting? The mobo has SATA connectors but nothing about ATA in the specs.

Thanks.

Doesn't that mobo have one IDE slot to take 2 devices, as well as the SATA connectors?

If so, you could put your HDD and 1 x optical drive on the IDE ribbon :D

I thought it would need some IDE ports as well cause not many opticals are SATA...

It DOES have 2 Ultra DMA 133/100/66/33....would those be the IDEs?

4? That would be really good but these are the specs right from Asus:

- 2 x Ultra DMA 133/100/66/33
- 4 x Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s
- Support RAID0, 1, 0+1, 5, and JBOD
- 1 x External Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s (SATA On-the-Go)

Can you confirm/someone else confirm that I can connect 4 IDE devices to this mobo?

It does indeed have 2 IDE channels supporting up to 4 devices. If you look at a picture of the board you can see them ;)

It even has a FDD connector.

They're all the way at the bottom of the board though, you might have some difficulty getting them cabled up, but the ports are there...

As far as I know...you can support two IDE devices per cable in a master/slave configuration. I'm not entirely sure how best to arrange that, so you ought to look up how to set the jumpers for maximum performance. If you only have two devices, just put them on different ribbons and set them both as master.
