Audigy 2 vs new x fi sound cards

Has anyone seen a benefit of upgrading between these two? I know it has all this power but is there any real audio quality difference? Also has driver support and all that improved? I know my audigy 2 has the right side not working when I first start up sometimes. I have to restart in order for it to work. So is that a driver bug or a defective card? It has gone with me through multiple computers, so maybe it is the card but who knows.

Or better yet is a modern day realtek on board sound going to be just as good as an audigy 2?

More about : audigy sound cards

my old 4 year old audigy 2 put my onboard realtek AC97 to shame. Since my audigy 2 died, I went back to the 97, however, my new x-fi just blows the 97 clean out of the water.

I say go with the upgrade, I havant played with my x-fi to the debth I did with my audigy, but I think the audigy has calibration features that the x-fi doesnt, but the x-fi, but the x-fi is significantly better in every other area.

btw, my audigy was an original audigy 2, and my x-fi is the xtreme gamer edition.

Ah ok. I was just thinking of going with on board sound that comes with my new nforce 680i mb but maybe ill pick one of those up at Best buy and give it a whirl. I haven't bought a new sound card in over 4 years. So I would think creative has been busy doing something. Well something other then fighting with apple over mp3 players.
