Hi guys i have a system based on AMD 939 chipset, athlon 3000 venice core now i dont want to spend anymore money than necessary so i was thinking that there is a lot of scope still in this chipset ,

so i am planning to go for a AMD fx-70 processor while earlier i was thinking
of getting a C2d e6600 but then, i was like hey i am at the bottom of the ladder with this chipset so why not get a Fx-70

After seeing the Cpu charts .. i dont think the c2d e6600 is that much faster infact it is slower in lots of benches and since they are similarly priced.

Also i have a x1800 gpu , so would i see some difference with the fx-70 compared to the 3000 venice , i am not in a hurry to buy a new gpu as i am waiting for the r600 to come out.

thanks guys please do let me know your thoughts.

I'm Sorry Sir but your out of luck. a FX-70 Doesn't fit into a Socket 939. And the E6600 would be about a good 235% better than your current A64 3000+

But this does<

Maybe I'm Hijacking this Thread but just showing a New Deal from Tigerdirect.

Canadians look at this

Americans

FX-60 Barebone system for 400$US (510$CDN) only RAM needed!!!!!!

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=508&model2=611&chart=174
Above is the Chart with A64 3000+ vs the FX-70
508-611-174.png
(about a 430% Improvement from Current to FX-70 and about 236% better.

The FX-70 out weights your system by 430% and it outweighs the E6600 by about 194% But also cost wise is about 100% more expensive

The FX-70 is a better choice if you can get one for about the same price as an E6600 and you only have to buy the cpu, but where are you going to get a socket 939 FX-70? The only ones i can find are socket F, for servers.

My apologies guys i guess then could u suggest a good cpu from a Amd 3000 939 chipset

also if the cost is too much then do u think i should go for a c2d because here is the thing i want a kick ass cpu ..cause i keep updating my graphic about 1 a year ...so i want a cpu that will hold me steady with a new graphic card like the r 600 or 8800 gtx :?

so here is the deal i can spend upto 400 dollars for a cpu and if possible then inclusive of a motherboard but ..if not then my limit is 500 dollars

Cause i dont want to be like oh i spent 400 dollars on a graphic card but i cant push it

cheers

There's nowhere else you can go in this sort of a budget. 939 is a Dead product now. May as well get a FX-60 and be On par with a Starter Core 2 Duo 8) Trust me, This deal is the best for 939. Otherwise Go with E6600 100% but i'm not sure you will be able to fit that into a range of 1000$ (including R600)

Okay i have decided to get the e6600 after reading many reviews and opinions ..plus getting a fx chip is going to cost me approximately the same, but instead its going to be dead in a few months after AMD shuts shop

So here it is E6600 is the winner Intel wins again :) but could u suggest a good midrange board with decent overclocking .

cheers :)

3ghz easy with a P5B-E and E6600. Maybe even 3.5, but i would want to get an aftermarket hsf before i tried. Are you going to get 1gb of ram or 2? You'll want to get ddr2-800 or faster ram, and lower timings are better.

Get the top of the line for the 939: The Fx-60. It's $460 on newegg vs $316 for the 6600. It beats the 6600 in some tests, loses in others. You'll save on not having to buy another motherboard and ram though so you'll save a couple hundred easy even though the processor costs more. MB + ram is minimum $300.

So... 939 top of the line = $460 out of your pocket
switch to intel and the 6600 = $316 + over $200 for 2 gigs of ram + over $100 for a decent MB = $616 at least.

Get the FX-60.

Also... waiting a week or two until February may pay off. That processor is very likely to drop in price. Either way... it's the better deal for you.

The E6700 is unlocked? or is 10x the standard multiplyer?

Edit: Checked, not unlocked, just has a 10x multi. Anyway, OP get the e6600 its a great overclocker and will serve you very well.

how bout buy a intel e4300 for 173$, a asrock 775dualvista mb for 70$, reuse your old ddr1 ram and overclock the e4300 to 2.9ghz and with the 250$ you have left from the 400$ buy your self a nice videocard like saphire x1950. that setup WILL run anything at justabout max settings. ^_^

A good board that will not break the bank is the Asus P5B-E (not the deluxe version, it has extra crap you don't need). I really like this board, I am running an E6700 at 3.33 GHz right now ... very simple -- go into the bios, up the system clock from 267 (quad FSB pumped 1067) to 333 (1333 MHz FSB), and the processor at 10x would give 3.33 GHz. Took all of about 2 minutes, on standard air cooling. Processor idles about 46 Deg C and Full loads at about 56-58 deg C.

The 965 chipset is made on the 90 nm process which can take higher clocks.

You can find this board in the 150ish range.

Anandtech has also reviewed some good budget boards, you may want to go there and skim through his motherboard section.

Jack

Jack, I thought you were running the P5WDH Deluxe?
