Stuck for choice here, I play allot of BF2 and the like, I have a 4000+ Single core cpu right now but seen the dual core 3800+, 4200+ and 4600+ cpu's prices are pretty low. Is it worth upgrading to one of the above cpu's over my current 4000+ (2.4GHZ) cpu and will dual core make any difference to games such as Battlefield 2 / 2142 ??

Thanks in advance

Since you already have a pretty decent single core, I'd say save your money for your next build.

also, if you wanted to overclock, ill bet with some good RAM you could EASILY get 2.8 ghz out of that 4000+. though, if you get seriously bugged by your anti-virus popping up and slowing you down while in a game, you should go dual core because those thingys do great with multitasking (provoded you have the RAM).

I just got an 4200+ for 155 off newegg. Before i had a 3500+ clocked at 2.62. Right now i have 4200+ at 2.42. On most applications like gaming you will decrease your preformance going with a dual 2.2 because games are mostly single threaded apps. However with my new dual core i can now encode videos in have the time or encode a video in the same time and play bf2 with no lag because the 4200+ is like having two 3500+. If you have the money and want to keep your system for about another year or so i would say get the dual core if you do alot of encoding or multask. if you dont then stay with what you have because that CPU should still play any game out there with out a problem
