I am trying to troubleshoot XP workstations that fail to
resolve the domain name according to workstation event
logs. DNS is fine, the erors are random. It may happen
maybe once in 10 logins. I thought it was maybe network
related (physical) but when I saw it happed at other
sites I am looking closer at AD configuration. I noticed
that the default domain policy was not linked to the
domain in question. Recently we had to restore sysvol and
Im sure this was just overlooked. Complex password
policies are not used for the domain so really no one has
noticed this policy not being linked. Does anyone know
what vital roles the default domain policy holds. Is it
conceivable that a missing default domain policy will
cause workstations to fail and resolve domain name. I know
most will say it must be dns related but I have verified
the dns and usually dns either works or does not. It
doesnt make sense for me that a workstation will fail one
in 10 times to resolve the domain name. Any ideals will
be appreciated.
