At the outset I would like to apologise if this is a
problem which has already been answered in this newsgroup.
I have been searching around for the past few days and I
have not been able to come up with a precise answer. The
problem is as follows :
I have a domain running on Windows 2000, with 2 DCs
running Win 2k Server. The Primary DC crashed and when I
did a re-install of the system and integrated it with the
network, the other DC refuses to accept it as a part of
the network. The error messages that I get are related to
failure of FRS and inability to access the Domain
Controller. On doing a repadmin I find that the crashed DC
is going by two GUIDs, which I suspect is the cause of the
problem. The second install on the DC gave it a new GUID
while the other DC still retains the old GUID as the
system, strictly speaking has not been properly taken out
of the network. Can anyone tell me how to identify and
remove the offending GUID from the backup DC ? The
computers by themselves do not contain any information
about the GUIDs ( the 8-4-4-4-12 number). Thanks in
advance for any help you can provide. I would sure
appreciate it.
