motherboard dilemma

I'm building a new computer that I want to be able to last for a relatively long time. It's come to my discovery that PCI-E 2.0 is going to be available around sept. - oct. of this year. I was going to go with the EVGA nforce 680i SLI mobo as I wanted the dual 16x pci-e slots along with the latest nvidia chipset. I'm thinking now maybe I should just go with the cheaper MSI P965 Platinum instead as a cheaper option so when I have to upgrade the mobo for PCI-E 2.0, it won't be as painful. The cheaper mobo also wouldn't be suitable in the longrun for me because I plan on adding an additional 8800gtx somewhere in the future and I think I'd need the additional 16x slot on there. Does it make sense for me to go with this cheaper board or is pci-e 2.0 not significant enough for me not to get the 680i board now?

Isn't the 650i chipset an option?

It has 2 PCI-E Express @ 16x (8x when in SLi) so you could run SLi or a card + one dedicated to physics

And it is much cheaper than the 680i
