Xeon 3060 or E6600?

I've been reading some sparatic info on how the Xeon brother of the E6600 runs cooler and could possibly overclock better. There is only about a $15 difference between the two?

Any opinions either way? I'm planning to put this into an ASUS Striker Extreme mobo with about 2GB of Crucial Ballistix 1000Mhz memory. and a Zalman 9700 CPU Cooler. I'd like to do some OC'ing to a stable level.

TIA!

In my opinion, the 3060 is well worth the extra lunch money. The following thread details the Xeon 3060.

My previous rigs have been AMD's, including an upgrade fron an X2 3800 to an Opteron 170. I was thoroughly impressed with the Opteron OC'd to 3.0Ghz. Had I been aware that the Xeon 3060 was available when I purchased my E6600, then the C2D in my sig would be a 3060, and perhaps my OC might be closer to 4.0Ghz. 8)

Yep - I believe the 3060 is the superior choice. It's just binned better with a higher QA. Typically a little cooler, which = better oc.

Definitely worth an extra $15.

I just bought a 6600, lol.
The price difference before was only $20Cdn (regular price) - so I was going Xeon 3060, BUT then they had a big sale on the E6600, which was then a $70+ difference.

I still wanted the 3060, but I can't justify a $70 price difference. :) Damn sales...lol.

But if the 3060 was on sale too, I'd jump on that instead.

Thanks. I've actually found the 3060 for only $8 more now. From further research it looks like I want to try to get the 'B' revision of the Xeon chip as they've had better luck OCing those.

I'll let you know once I get everything in.

Currently this is what I've got:

Antec Nine Hundred - Own
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU - Own
19" Widscreen LCD - Own
ASUS Striker Extreme - Waiting (Out of stock everywhere)
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1000Mhz DDR2 (2GB) - Ordered
eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS - Ordered
Xeon 3060 - Waiting until Mobo is avail, or good sale comes around
Ultra 120 CPU Cooler and Misc cooling supplies - Ordered

Is there a way to know what you're buying is a certain revision? If you find a way to reliably buy revision 'B' PM me because I'm trying for a nice overclock. 8)

I dunno. I'm going to call the vendor to see if I can request it. They are clearly labeled on the box near the UPC, so we'll see. I'm looking to use zipzoomfly.com as they have the best price right now.
