newbie to the xtreme lookin for help

whats up everyone, great site here, looks like there are a lot of people in here who know their stuff!

anyway im lookin into getting a new system i have a budget of 1200 buckos!

im not gonna be overclocking since that type of stuff makes me nervous, but heres what i do want,

8800gts is a must as i will want to play games on this system, along with dx10 support

atleast 2gigs ram

this system will be used for everything! gaming- general use, and some music production (already got a soundcard ,speakers and monitor)

so what i need is

hard drive
optical drive

likei said before this will be my 1st! pc building experience so umm i would like the items to be compatible with eachother with minimal tweaking ( i hear there is a lot of issues with ram and mobo compatibility, so i would wanna stay away from messing with that too much)

basically i want to be able to assemble it, turn it on and smile :)

iknow i know i sound lazy and want everything spoonfed, but hey! i want pro advice!

thanks again!

Several threads on here with similar needs & budget. Likely worth looking through them. My biggest question is why just these components? Do you have a case/PSU you will be able to use? Are you sure it has enough juice for an 8800? You mentioned you want at least 2GB RAM, yet RAM isn't in your list. No monitor in your list. Do you have a monitor that can keep up with an 8800? I assume you also have keyboard, mouse, speakers and such and those also aren't listed.

Whether you are building a whole new system or doing an upgrade with just the items you mention will have an impact on what you can afford within your budget.
  2. sorry my post was just scattered didnt get my thoughts out straight

i did do a little lookin around in the site and found somebody else building a machine, they specs seem good

    1. Intel Core 2 E6400 2.13 GHz Item #: N82E16819115004
    a. $213.00
    2. G SKILL 2.0 GB RAM DDR-800 Item #: N82E16820231098
    a. $210
    3. ASUS P5B Deluxe Item #: N82E16813131028
    a. $195
    4. GEFORCE 8800 GTS Item #: N82E16814130071
    a. $400
    5. WD SATA 3.0 GBPS HD Item #: N82E16822144417
    a. $70
    6. OCZ Power Supply Item #: N82E16817341002
    a. $160
    7. Case Antec $55

what do you think about this set up?
  3. I think that is a very solid config. You are just a bit over your original budget. Unless you plan on moving to SLI, you could go to the ASUS P5B-E (N82E16813131070) instead of the deluxe and shave off $45 without costing yourself anything. Likewise the 700W power supply is overkill. Even staying with the OCZ OCZ GameXStream brand, you can shave off $50 by stepping down to the 600W model (N82E16817341001), which is still more than you'll ever need.

I think you are in the right ballpark though. Nice job.
  4. cool, i think ill take your advice on the motherboard and psu
