missing ICQ buddy list when switching to new computer - no..

Hello,
I just switched to a new computer running WinXP as operating system.
Now, I wanted to install ICQ on it again, using my old ICQ account, of
course. But when I first signed into my old account with the freshly
installed ICQ, it displayed my buddy list as completely empty. (I also
didn't receive any offline messages, which I strongly believe I must
have had in the weeks of my absence. But that's just a minor problem.)
All my other personal information (like name, languages, interests...)
where still stored on the server and accessible. I always was under
the impression, that the buddy list is stored on the server, too. Is
there any way to recover it?

The "Buddy list," authorizations etc. are kept in the ICQ directory in the
numbered folders. What I do is copy the entire ICQ directory tree over to
the new computer then install ICQ into that directory. This retains
everything. I've kept the same number and user lists since 1997 by doing
this. If you're installing a newer version of ICQ then the database will be
automatically updated to retain compatibility.
