While i was installing my Zalmon cnps9700 last night on my Evga 122-CK-NF68-AR 680i motherboard I decided to remove the north/southbridge cooler as well as my chipset temps (with the fan) were averaging 63c which i thought were rather high. (Somewhat) to my surprise I was greeted with a horrible mess of a thermal nightmare as the thermal compound seemed to have been applied with a tablespoon. I swear they must have been trying to insulate the chipset cores. Anyway I applied the thinnest layer of Zalmon super thermal compound that i could and now my chipset temps have dropped by 15c!! To anyone running the Evga 122-CK-NF68-AR i highly recommend checking your chipset for excessive thermal grease.
