Ok, I don't usually plug specific retailers, but this is too good a
deal.

If you've been waiting for a really sweet deal before taking the bait,
here's one for you. Conns (http://www.conns.com) has the Hitachi
57T600 on sale right now for $1997.99. This TV is a high-end Hitachi
rear-projection model. Their T series sits right above the highly
praised S series and right below their "elite" X/Directors series.

The set features the same lens technology found in the Hitachi S
series with the added benefit of AV NET technology from the X series.
This set is the only "600" model Hitachi makes, it has the same
integrated HDTV tuner found int their "700" series with IEEE 1394
(Firewire) input/output (compatible with the JVC D-VHS decks) and a
front accessible card slot for your digital camera card As with all
Hitachi's RP-HDTVs it has the Virtual HD 1080i upconverter for all
analog sources, 3:2 pull-down, DVI, plenty of other inputs. 120 point
manual convergence, Magic Focus auto convergence (which actually works
pretty well)

MSRP on this set is $2999, best Internet bargin I found was $2499.99
(before shipping), so this is a great deal. If you're in the market
for HDTV and you have a Conns in your area, check them out. Note:
their website inventory list does not reflect what's actually in
stock, it's just a sampling.

Conns is a great place to shop, they offer better than average service
at high volume retailer prices (cheap), they price match and also they
finance though multiple companies so if your new to credit or you have
some bad marks they can often come up with a financing where your
average high volume retailer (Best Buy, Circut City, Sears, etc..)
would not. Now that sounds like a plug I know, but seriously they are
probably the only retailer I would recommend so highly, just because
I've never had a bad experience there, and I only hear good things
from people who shop there.

So what makes this different from there 700 series? Everything you mentioned
is in there 700 series? What makes the 700 better than there 600? Or better
yet, you state that there T is better than S. How is the T better than the
S?

Thanks,
Scott

The T600 adds the AVNet Infrared Control System and a second remote control.
Can't remember the other differences beyond that.

There's just two differences between the 57T600 and 57T700. 1. the
T600 does not have a anti-glare shield and 2. The T600 only comes with
one remote, the T700 (and T500 for series for that matter) come with
both the normal universal remote and also a simple remote designed to
work with the AV NET feature.

Aside from these two elements the T600 same the same menu and features
of the T700, you can buy the "simple remote" from Hitachi if you'd
like and it will work fine with the T600 as all the inside components
and menu are identical to the T700. From what I've been told you can
not add the anti-glare screen, however many people dislike the
anti-glare screen on the S series and actually pay a couple hundred to
have it removed anyway, this is because the screen dims the contrast a
bit (also it doesn't seem to do it's just of anti-glare very well).

The Hitachi X (Director's series) line is their top-end, these sets
feature a slightly altered version of the lens technology found in the
S and T series (S & T share identical lens and projection components.
The only signifigance of the 700/600/500 model numbers is as follows:
700 and 600 series represent integrated HDTVs the 500 series represent
HDTV monitors (without an HD tuner). So the three digit number has no
bearing on the quality of the picture at all, that comes from the
letter. Here is the quality of each (from low to high):

W series - Hitachi's entry level, only available in the 46" table top
model, shares lens and CRT technology with the F and G series.

F series - Hitachi's lowend (still better than any other brand in its
price range, similar performance to Toshiba Cinema and Mistsubishi
Diamond without the price).

G series - Identical lens technology as F series, "better quality"
anti-glare shield than F. Shares the same menu system and remote as F
series.

S series - Uses "Super Contrast CRT and Super Contrast lens"
technology, don't understand all the details, but this is the probably
the most raved rear-projection technology on the market. Competes well
against the top of the line Pioneer Elite models), many of us feel
this is the best CRT based rear-projection technology money can buy
and the S is the best value (unless you find a good sale :)

T series - Uses same lens technology and CRT technology from the S
series, adds "simple remote" (in addition to the universal remote) and
AV NET features. The T500 and T700 feature yet another "unique"
anti-glare shield specific to this line.

X (Directors) series - Uses a slightly modified version of the lens
technology found in the S and T series, has a custom anti-glare
protector screen (unique than all other models), has. Also has the AV
NET and simple remote from the T series. I don't know much about this
line since no one seems to carry it.

All Hitachi models have a 1080p/540p upconverter which is generally a
really awesome thing (all analog singles are converted to 1080i or
540p, your choice) so you don't need a progressive scan DVD player and
your NTSC broadcast and VHS tapes will look pretty damn good. Only
down side of this is that if you've invested in high-end AV equipment
you probably have an upconveter built into your DVD player or AV
reciever so you'd want to disable this feature for that. Also, all
Hitachi's have 120 point manual convergence (outside service menu) and
auto convergence tweaking.
