upgrading- all computers do it at some point in time.
right now, my computer has an EVGA 7600GT PCI-Express in it. I don't know if it's the video card, or the brand, or simply the amount of RAM I have in my computer (1 GB), but I have had so many problems with that card, it might just be funny. I can't even begin to recount them.
either way, I'm going to upgrade the video card by, at the very least, October. I was wondering just when I should upgrade. I was thinking of buying the new ATI cards when the come out this year after the prices drop a bit (the added incentive is also that I have an AMD system). then, I realized that Nvidia will drop their prices when those cards come out.
so I came here looking for some feedback. anyone have any? and also, which card should I get? the less expensive, but still good, Nvidia card, or the more expensive, and better, ATI card?
Also, you upgrade your card when you need to. When R600 comes out, there will be other things coming up after it, so you can't choose a specific time to upgrade.
True, but I think the sweet spot is always going to be around october, because that's usually when companies try to release their best stuff in time for christmas, and price cuts will come for their older stuff that's still good
Once crysis comes out and you know the true power of dx10, then decide what company to go with and I think with the exception of the 8800 series, right now ati is the better company to go with, because their x1950xt is only $220 and you can use ati's catalyst software to clock it to xtx speeds without damaging the card or voiding your warranty
When you can pay about what you paid for your last card and get a nice noticeable performance/graphics boost in your favorite games, then it is time to upgrade. Personally, once every two years has worked for me for as long as I can remember.
not now, that is a very stupid move, at least wait until the r600 benchmarks that are valid are released, once we see some valid benchmarks, then it may be time to upgrade, but then again, the 8900's are on the way, and crysis will be the determinant of who the winner shall be
