I've just built my first PC, turned the power on and I got a very high-pitched whining noise coming from the machine, so I turned the power off again straight away.

Any ideas what this is? What should I do?

  1. Lol, unplug your speakers and microphone. That's what I had a problem with. :) But if it's not that, I would guess the HD.
  2. Don't worry, I hadn't plugged the HDD into the PSU. Doh!
  3. Hehehe. it happens, don't be embarassed, I'm sure tons of people have EVEN STUPIDER mistakes than that, including me :)

Could be the fan on the power supply. Listen closely to see if you can find the noise. PSU or mobo should be the culprit. HD clicks when bad
