I've just built my first PC, turned the power on and I got a very high-pitched whining noise coming from the machine, so I turned the power off again straight away.

Any ideas what this is? What should I do?

Lol, unplug your speakers and microphone. That's what I had a problem with. But if it's not that, I would guess the HD.

Don't worry, I hadn't plugged the HDD into the PSU. Doh!

Could be the fan on the power supply. Listen closely to see if you can find the noise. PSU or mobo should be the culprit. HD clicks when bad
