256mb X1950XT

512mb 7950gt

I seem to remember the ol' X1900XT 256mb dominating the charts not that long ago, while the performance of the 7950gt was more midrange.

Differences Pro ATI:
more powerful

Pro Nvidia:
Single-slot solution
HDCP compliant
512mb memory might do better at future games
probably uses less power
probably makes less noise

I dunno, can anything take the place of more horsepower?

tt y'all later

you seem to have mislabeled that 7950gt as 512mb. in the link it is 256
if it were 512 it would have some advantages. the 7950gt is slower, but it does have more pixel pipelines. the ati card in turn has more pixel shaders so its up to you.

The X1950XT trades blows with a 7900GTX; both are way above the 7950GT, whether it's 512MB or 256MB like the one you linked to.

check this little review of the HIS IceQ X1950XT:

It dominates the 7950GT.

Or for more games, this 7950GT review which includes 4-7950GT's at different clock speeds ( 1 reference, 3 overclocked). If you look at the X1900XT 256MB, it's the same as the X1950XT but with 350MHz slower DDR. Obviously, (like it does in the other link above) the X1950XT with the faster memory will beat the X1900XT, so you can get an idea as X1900XT beats the 7950GT.

Here is the X1900XT 256MB price identically to that 256MB 7950GT. ($199 after $15 rebate) I'd go with one of the two radeons.
