i'm reaching the end of my tether here. i've got a linksys WRTG54 V5 which is really starting to piss me off. I've currently tried everything i know on it and it just does not want to work. gone though it, set it up (i use PPPoe for my connection, which seems to work for about 5 minutes. then it suddenly chooses to stop me from accessing any web pages. it tells me that it has found the page, and is loading but hangs till it gives me the "cannot connect to server". I know that it is connected, because i run Bittorrent (...for linux and other non copyright material ofcourse) which continues to download. and i've used
cmd --> ping www.google.com which gives me a response.
I have tried using 3 different PCs, tried restarting the router, modem, PCs everything i can think of.
I have also used both wireless and wired to no avail, they still connect but they dont go online.
I know that it may seem like a DSL problem futher down the line, but even when i tried to enter and edit the settings i.e.
192.168.1.1, it will hang regardless of wireless or cable. I've become soo pissed off with it that i nearly threw it out the window, can anyone PLEASE help me???
I apologise about the capslock
It makes me wonder why people live by Linksys so much. I had 2 linksys routers on an intranet (kinda complicated setup) but the stupid routers would freeze all the time. The only way I got it to work was to have the 2 routers on differen't firmware versions.
Linksys and some other companies (Tyan used to atleast) send out crappy drivers and then wait for feedback from the users. I would suggest rolling back to an older firmware version.
If you can afford to scrap the thing I would. I bought D-Link equipment and never looked back.
Are you running Symantec Antivirus ?
I got the symptoms you describe when running the Symantec Antivirus. It was somehow blocking my Internet access to "protect me"
I removed Symantec and installed the AVG free antivirus and all works well.
no i dont have an internal firewall and i was running freeAV, i returned 1 and got another in return, but that one crapped out on me quicker then the other one. i contacted linksys support and there advice to me was that i should upgrade the firmware...which i dont think is really possible since it hangs very quickly. which kinda makes me worry that i'll be in the middle of updating when it will start to hang on me bricking the thing...anyway the alturnative that they said was possible was that it came from a bad batch. which kinda makes me think is possible, though I think that i'm just gonna return it and pay a difference to get a better one
