Greetings all,

I just ordered a BFG 8800 GTX, an improvement over my XFX 7800 GT. However, upon looking in my case, I noticed that the new card which measures 10.5" X 4.376" X 1.8" will conflict with the NB Heatsink I have on the MOBO (I swapped out the cheap fan Asus uses standard last year). It's really the thickness of the GPU's fan which will confict. Can I:

1.) Remove the heatsink, and let the the fan from the 8800 blow over the NB (It seems to fit that way)
2.) Place the GTX in the second PCI-E slot (is there a framerate drop with this?
3.) Remove the heatsink and put a fan on the NB, hoping it won't be too tall off of the MOBO.

How can I make this work?

Here is the card:

If anyone has any ideas I would be most oblidged...

Cheers,

Thanks for your response, Mpilchfamily!

I will consider that device... seems to work nicely...

Do you know, per chance, if setting the GPU in the second PCI-E slot will result in poorer performance that putting it in the first? I could avoid the whole thing (I don't think I am going to pull off an SLI anyway, until I upgrade the MOBO, proc and RAM, etc).

if you put it in your second pcie slot, make sure you go into the bios and change the display setting from "PCI-E 1> PCI > PCI-E2" to PCI-E2> PCI> PCI-E 1". i tried my graphics card in both, and the only time i got a loss of performance is if that setting in the bios is set to pcie 1 as the first card. as long as you reverse it, it should be all good. also, depending on your case, you might severely cut the air that can get to the fan, thus raising the temps. if i were you i'd just get the heatsink that mpilchfamily recommended, and leave your 8800 in the first pcie slot.
