Hi,

I recently purchased an intel mobo (D865GLC) and am trying to update the BIOS to support a faster CPU (going from a 2.53 @ 533mhz to a 3.0 @ 800mhz) and a high capacity SATA hdd.

When I attempt flashing the BIOS I get the error message:

"BIOSID'S DO NOT MATCH

CURRENTLY INSTALLED BIOS ID: BF86510A.15A.0030.P05.0305220848
ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL BIOS ID: BF86510A.86A.0077.P25.0508040031"

The first set of numbers being the BIOS ID and the 4th set being the version.

I have also attempted using Intel's Express BIOS Update but to no avail. I just get a message after reboot that the update was unsuccessful. I also tried the BIOS recovery procedure but the computer only beeps continuously (and annoyingly I might add). If anyone could offer some help I'd be greatly appreciative.

Thanks, Glenn

Ok, so I figured out that the 2nd set of numbers is the vendor (in this case, Gateway) ID. Apparently this number, too, has to match. I found a work-around, which says go about the BIOS recovery process with the BIOS recovery file on the floppy. The instructions I got from the Intel site only stated that I was required to have the latest drivers on the disc. It made no mention of the BIOS recovery file hence the annoying beeping I got when I attempted Intel's method.

Anyway, this individual said that his board didn't initially work after having gone through this process, but he was able to reset the CMOS by removing the battery after which it worked fine. There was apparently a conflict with the onboard LAN.

I have my reservations about trying this. Can somebody with a little more experience let me know if I'm wading into deep feces with this one, or does it have some validity?

Thanks, Glenn

Gateway?? Does that mean your computer came from Gateway?? Now here's what I think. Even though it does look like a Intel manufactured board, the BIOS is really Gateway(it may be almost identical but it may have gateway specific modifications). In practice, you effectively updated your "Gateway" board with "Intel" BIOS. Usually that means FUBAR, as you should use BIOS that's from your vendor, which is Gateway in this case. Ask Gateway to see if anything can be done.

I got a really good deal on an aftermarket mobo, which was aparently pulled from a Gateway machine. The latest BIOS update issued by Gateway was P21, which is fine for what I needed it for (I only needed something after P13) but after installing that version, it couldn't find my primary hdd or cd drive. I ended up installing the Intel-issued P25 (all-the-while using the aforementioned BIOS recovery method mind you) and there doesn't seem to be any problems other than it doesn't give me the option of disabling the onboard sound or video. That is to say, using my old processor. The processor I'm trying to upgrade to however, is thusfar unresponsive. I may commit PC homicide (compucide?) later this evening! :)

Thanks for your help, -Glenn

Glad to see it works.

Maybe the 800MHz FSB CPU is a Prescott?? The first revision 865/875 boards do not support Prescott. To check out that its a Prescott, see if it says anything about having 1MB L2 cache.

Hmm. Maybe the board has some limitations with BIOS tweaking. I've seen a Pentium 4 based computer made by HP, and you have to press different button to access the more "advanced" BIOS menus(for example the normal one is F2/DEL, and the advanced one is F9). Perhaps you can find that out.

That's exactly what it was. I rechecked the compatibility chart and saw that my motherboard's revision won't support a Prescott. Only Northwood with a 512k L2 cache. I must have overlooked that little nuance the first time. Too late to get a refund or exchange it now though. Guess I'll throw it up on ebay or something. Damn my luck :x

Thanks once again!

I also bought a Gateway BIOS'd Intel D865GLC on e-bay. If you have too and need the Gateway updates for this board, here's the link:

FYI and good luck!
