I have a Motorola SB4200 Surfboard cable modem for my internet connection. I have tried to set up a wireless connection with another upstairs computer but after months of trying, I give up. If a bought another separate Motorola SB4200 modem for my upstairs computer would both computers be connected to the internet simultaneously? or would I have problems?

You need a wireless router, such as the Linksys WRT54G. The router connects to your modem and then your PCs connect to the router. That particular router is well recommended and has both wired and wireless ports.
