Here's the situation.

I bought a 40 inch LG HDTV the other day, rear projection. 40NZ60. Can't
find ANYTHING on the net about this TV, in retrospect.

At the store, I was told it supported 720p... not only will it not display
it, it won't even accept it. Playing Freedom Fighters on 720p gave me
gibberish. So I need to take it back and get another one that will at
LEAST upconvert 720 to 1080i. Ideally, I'd like one that can display 720p,
but that may or may not be possible for me, in my price range. Not a huge
deal, though I definitely want something that will at least convert it to
1080i.

I also noticed something worrying about the picture. Playing Xbox was
OK... I did notice a little ghosting if I looked hard. For example, trees
against clear skies in Rallisport had a fairly visible ''ghost'' behind
it. And the lines on the rink in ESPN. They were particularly noticeable
because of the contrast between the solid color and the white background.
Nothing that affected gameplay, but an eyesore when you look for it! And
it's hard not to, when you know about it.

PS2... different story. Transformers had unbearable motion blur. Looked
great when I stood still, but as soon as I transformed and started
cruisin' around the Amazon... couldn't stand it. Heck, just going into
first person view in a corridor resulted in painful blur. It was
noticeable in 480p games like Ratchet and Clank 2, as well. Syphon Filter
was quite blurry, as was Gran Turismo 3. Much worse than Xbox... Xbox
Splinter Cell looked good. Playing the PS2 games on my old 20 inch looked
better, and I didn't notice the blurring.

I am using component cables, BUT, they are third party, cheap ones. I've
only had the TV for 6 days, haven't had time to get the official ones. I
don't know if that might play into this somehow. The settings in my PS2
and Xbox are OK. It hasn't been calibrated or anything, but I wouldn't
think that would matter in this scenario. I will get a cal DVD eventually.

Carrying on. Obviously, I had a bad experience with this RPTV. I've been
all over the net (IGN, hometheaterforums, gamefaqs, etc) and a lot of
helpful, knowledgeable people have given me advice and suggestions. I just
need more. ;-) CRTs have been recommended to me due to their picture
quality, and I'm seriously researching the Sony KV30HS510 Trinitron Wega.
I would prefer a bigger screen, though. This 40 inch screen is sexy and it
would be tough to downsize after our week together. -_-

I don't want (or can't afford!) LCD, plasma, DLP, projectors, etc. It's
down to CRT and RP... unless someone has another idea.

I've heard that RPTVs are susceptible to things like this at times... I've
also heard from people that claim perfection. So I want to know if anyone
here with RPTVs have any similar problems. Or are RPTVs in general more
prone to this than direct view? Do you find your games/films look good in
motion? Or is there a noticeable blur when the action gets fast and
furious? Maybe I just have a lemon! Tell me about your RPTV, and what you
do on it, how it performs, etc. If you've got one that gives you no
problems when gaming, what's the model/make of it?

I think I'll ask some vendors tomorrow if I can hook up my PS2 and try a
couple of games on a couple of TVs... I don't think they'll mind, they'll
have a good chance of making a 2k sale if all goes well! I had my eyes on
a 40-46 (can't remember) inch Hitachi RPTV... is that a good one? 1999,
Canadian.

I will be using this TV mostly for gaming. Gaming first, movie watching
second. I need a TV that can handle hot action on screen.

wow, finally someone with a similar problem as mine. I also have the same
tv. I noticed this "motion blurring" as well while playing xbox games,
most especially fast moving games (think ninja gaiden). While viewing the
world in first person (ninja gaiden) the game's graphics would create some
sort of ghost everytime i move the camera, thus creating some sort of blur
effect. It was pretty damn annoying since everything else was looking
pretty good. Any suggestions out there on how to fix this problem of ours?
