do you get your local channels off a regular voom installation or does it
require extra hardware you need to pay for? i have direct tv and i'm unable
to get local channels unless i get a waiver from each individual networks
(cbs, fox, abc. nbc, etc). then i have to pay extra per channel received
(and its not really my local channel, its the direct broadcast feed from
nyc). also would they offer a regular non hd sattelite box for non hd units?
we have one hd-ready unit at home, but the rest are not. seems to me you
dont want to waste an hd box for a 2nd tv say unless it was hd-ready.....

AFAIK (and I just spoke with the Voom guys at the HES2004), they only
offer a 'free' OTA antenna for the local channels which feeds through
their box. So, no waiver is required but you have to be in a position
where local reception is possible.

can you split the ota antenna feed to other tv's in your house that dont
have a voom box? just so at least you have local channels on other tv's and
dont have to get 3-4 boxes......

Dunno. I have only one TV (at this house).

I don't see why not - - at worst, you might want to get an amplifier that
provides multiple outputs to feed all the TVs you have, rather than just a
splitter with its attendant losses. Choose one that goes to 900 MHz, if
possible, so that one of the outputs can go to the VOOM box. Be sure you
can return it if the results aren't quite what you desire.

It's a cheesy cheap antenna that works only in the best of conditions.
Get a real UHF antenna if you're serious about local HD.

Have you tried an antenna?
Just plug one into the DirecTV box and see what happens.

Yes. An antenna feed can be split.
You might be surprised when you see that OTA NTSC is superior to the
cable.

You don't need a waver because they pull them from OTA and add it in
your guide.
They provide you with an adequate local antenna as part of the
install. They will upgrade you to a larger one if necessary.
It is really at your installers discretion, so if antennaweb says you
can get them you will. It could take some bitching at voom to get
the upgrade if your installers don't feel like doing it or aren't
aware they can.,
The voom boxes have svideo and composite out, but if your SD tv
doesn't have 16:9 I wouldn't waste my money for it. Just get a
modulator and send the first units feed all over the house.

Make sure that you check out the following website to find out everything
you will need to know about the antenna you will need and where to point it.
The one Voom provided was not strong enough. Both my wife and I are happy
with the change to Voom.
BTW: I went from DirectTV that had local included to VOOM. Because of where
I live I can not get PBS. Also your local digital TV station may have
different programs then their analog broadcast. You can view the program
listing that will include your local stations at VOOM.com. Make sure you
check out their "free" equipment and installation that expires 5-31.
