Guys

I've just started overclocking..and have upped my FSB on my Gigabyte DQ6 to 290 to give it a small and fun overclock.

I apologise for repeating the same topics, it's just that I went through a hundred threads and couldn't find the right answer.

At what point do I need to make ram ratio 1:1? I have Corsair ddr2 6400c 800mhz 4-4-4-12 settings. Can the e6600 be overclocked to say 3ghz or 3.2ghz and leave every other settings including memory default?

I realise that with a FSb of 400 my memory at 400mhz would have a ratio of 1:1 and this would be it's maximum, but what about a FSB lower then Ram?

When will it make a difference when the ram ratio is made 1:1? Will i suffer in performance if i leave ram ratio as is? and overclock to say 3.2 or 3.0 ghz?

Your help would be greatly appeciated? What's is the highest overclock someone has achieved on default settings ? :D

Why do you wanna overclock? So the CPU can beat you at chess even quicker? LOL     Only kidding. ;)

What memory ratio are you using atm anyway? I'm assuming 4:5? Ie. you have the RAM running faster than the FSB?

There will be almost no performance hit by going from say 4:5 to 1:1. We're talking ~1 - 2% here. Anyhow, just keep overclocking using your current divider, if you approach 400FSB or 3.6GHz it may be worth lowering the RAM to 1:1 speeds, as I'm not sure if it will run at DDR2-1000 speeds, at least while keeping the same timings. Relaxing the memory timings or increasing VDIMM (memory voltage) may help if you wish to keep using a higher memory divider.

Good luck. ;)

This is a safe 24/7 OC on Core2 and should be sucessfull/stable on your system:
1. increase the core voltage to 1.45v
2. increase DRAM voltage +.1v
3. increase northbridge chipset voltage + .1v
4. set FSB:D RAM ratio to 4:5
5. set FSB to 367Mhz

Results:
CPU freqfency: 3.3GHz
DDR2 freqfency: 917.6MHz
FSB freqfency: 1466MHz

NOTE: If your system is stable, you can reduce core voltage and/or increase FSB to 375MHz and 400MHz(this needs to reduce FSB:D RAM ratio to 1:1)

Good Luck!

Epsilon thanks for your reply.

Actually my chess program could probably eat up the world champion as is...lol
But I compete against other programs on playchess a german chess server. Most of the C2d's there are overclocked to the max.

I struggle against the quad-core intel's they are super fast.

Just want to be a little more competitive that all.

hi gojdo

thanks for your reply...I'm a little nervous touching the vcore as I have never done it before but might give it a try. Thanks for your advice. :D
