OCZ or Corsair for DDR2-6400, 800Mhz

Is it worth the extra $60 Cdn for the Corsairs 2Gb XMS DDR2-6400 800Mhz, or should the OCZ 2Gb DDR2-6400 800Mhz perform as good?

Am I just paying that extra $60 for the brand name?

MOBO: P5B Deluxe (Compatible?)
CPU: E4300 (OC eventually)

Neither of those is likely to work, at least not reliably. From the mobo specs:

The RAM you named requires higher voltage. G. Skill has RAM that runs at 1.8v; there are some others.

Neither of those modules will work in that mobo (that mobo is a pos really, i wouldn't bother if i were you). Instead get a Gigabite S3 board and the OCZ memory, definetly not worth the extra $60.

i dont know why everyone thinks the P5B DLX cant run OCZ or any other high voltage memory.I had the P5B DLX with OCZ 800 Platinum 2x512 , now i have the OCZ 800 Gold 2x1GB.Never had any problems , not to mention that the P5B is one of the best overclockers and most tweakable boards available.

Go to corsair's website to find that out, look for ram guy's thread, it shows all the IC's in all the corsair ram ever made

As for the micron Ic, do you mean d9MGH? It's just very capable of high frequencies and can tollerate voltage nicely, which is important to have for overclocking

I have the same ram too, I was very impressed with them, as I got them to 1164mhz with only 2.325 volts to call it stable, only problem is that one stick now has errors, and my email is messed up, so I can't get ahold of a super talent rep to talk to them about it

man they have lifetime warranty. just sent them back

true, but I;m not sure if that includes ocing them to hell and back :twisted: I have touched 2.6 volts on those sticks, I'm surprised that I got errors from running them at stock instead of oc'd

Umm...I'm from Canada, and up here we don't have a lot of choices on rams, so is it wise to stick with the P5B Dlx and buy the kingston ddr2-667 ram? or get another mobo altogether? please give me recommendations.

i still insist you wont have any problems running OCZ on the P5B (its working fine for me) you just have to set voltage manually at 2.1 (or more if you like).Mine run at 900 MHz with no issues at default timings.Now supertalent might be better and i would go for it but its more expensive where i live so i got the OCZ.Get the P5B DLX anyway , its a great mobo.My brother has the DS3 and he is not very pleased with it.

I'd hate to contradict people who love tacos and others but by default, most if not all of the high rated ram boot at the default timings and voltages necessary by the intel based motherboards and then you can manually set the recommended timings and voltages afterwards in the bios. Then it's stable and offers great performance and maybe you can even tighten the ram timings yourself even more if you are into that type of thing. I don't know about you but I get tired of running memtest86+ and rather like using my machine. In any case, that's how it's supposed to work though some p965 motherboards may need a bios update beforehand.

There are memory configurators at most of the memory websites where you can plug in the brand name of your motherboard and the model of it and presto, recommendations of compatible memory for your motherboard. You'll be fine with the Corsairs or the OCZ. Pick your poison but both have quality support I believe.

The Corsair will do just fine and a little better for the P5B deluxe
Super Talent are far better for the money and will hit 1000 Mhz without a voltage push.
you may even get lucky with the super talent with 4 5 4 12

Corsairs OC just fine if you get the right IC's

unfortunately I can't get supertalent up here . So if I got the OCZ, will it boot up? and I have to immediately go to bios and change this settings to the recommended timings and volts of the ram?

Going off topic for a second...When people say flash the bios, that means saving the settings right? just want to confirm

it depends on the bios revision of the motherboard .It also depends on your choise of ram.
you seem to be leaning toward ocz.

I have 2 gigs of OCZ PC2-6400 Revision 1 which is rated for 4-5-4-15 @ 800mhz, but i bumped the voltage to 2.078V and im running it at 4-3-3-8. Also tested the OCZ ram at 1:1 @ 450mhz and it ran fine at 4-4-4-12. Maybe i got lucky and got some good IC's on it.

tricks I have heard about are using only one stick, taking out the battery and botting up, then putting it back

you dont have to remove the battery , (you can read it in the manual of the P5B Dlx) you just turn off the button on the PSU the turn it back on and it prompts you to edit bios settings on first boot.My setup worked right away with both sticks installed (the 2x512 sticks) i just raised voltage afterwards and i had an older version of P5B bios.In a newer version ( 07xx or something) it says just that, adding support for OCZ PC26400 sticks.Maybe i got lucky anyway like someone said.

Here are list of Rams I have available to me I could go for 667mhz ram since I'm getting a E4300 right? Though it's not much of a price difference between dd2-667 and ddr2-800.

I know it has been mentioned here already but, there is no issue with running our memory. It all boots just fine at stock settings and then you can increase from there. IIRC, this was resolved with bios back in about OCT or NOV 2006.
