Any hints on how to get the best deal out of DTV for an upgrade to HD service?
Seems like a few weeks back they were offering a $99 upgrade package but
yesterday they quoted me $399 for HD with integrated local channels via
antenna, plus another $99 for a PVR add-on which I also want.

I wonder what would happen if I tell them I'm switching to digital cable or
Voom?

Well I had the same problem, but I called and said my cable company was
offering HD with free hook up and free receiver and I thought 399 was too
much to pay for HDTV. Also I already had the triple LNB dish because I
needed it for my locals. They put me through to another rep who gave me the
whole system for $139. I took the deal and they had it shipped to my house
with in a couple days and now I enjoy HD.

As a salesperson, we sell the HD receiver with 2 other rooms of regular
Directv for $299...I would start negotiating a better deal, like Smitty.

Head over to Magnolia Hi-Fi. They are discontinued and selling in the
$300's.

Voom will get you free local channels. That's why I went with them.
DTV is still not available in my area. DTV has been telling me for 6
months that local channels were coming in a few weeks...and still
nothing. For a bout the same $, Voom gives me more HD, no
contract/commitment, no up front investment, I see no readon why I
should go with DTV. Perhaps when the P4 card is proven,...jk.
